Carbon Accounting & Finance Specialist
ABOUT ACTA Acta is a forestation project developer working on large-scale carbon and biodiversity projects across Europe and Central Asia. We restore ecosystems, improve forest management, and generate high-integrity carbon credits in partnership with public and private stakeholders. Our active portfolio spans improved forest management in Bulgaria and large-scale afforestation and reforestation in Central Asia, with further pipeline under development. Every project we design carries a social dimension: land tenure, community involvement, and long-term local benefit are built in from the start, not added afterwards. As our flagship project moves from feasibility toward implementation, and into discussions with investors and commercial partners, we are looking for a Carbon Accounting & Finance Specialist to build and own the numbers behind it. THE ROLE You will own Acta’s carbon accounting and financial models across the portfolio. That means building them, keeping them current as projects move from design through planting, verification and credit issuance, and standing behind the numbers in conversations with investors and partners. WHAT YOU’LL DO Build Build the carbon accounting model: ex-ante removal estimates, baseline and leakage deductions, non-permanence buffer, uncertainty, and expected issuance by vintage Build the project financial model: CAPEX, OPEX, carbon revenue, cash flow, funding needs, IRR, NPV and payback Link the two, so that any change in carbon assumptions flows straight through to revenue and returns Set up scenario and sensitivity analysis on survival rates, growth, buffer, verification timing, credit price and offtake terms Own Act as the single point of accountability for the numbers, both internally and externally Present and defend the models in investor due diligence, partner discussions and board updates Model offtake structures (ERPA, forward purchase, prepayment, price floors) and show how they affect cash flow and delivery risk Provide the carbon quantification and financial inputs to the Feasibility Study and Project Description Reflect Article 6 / ITMO adjustments, CORSIA eligibility and CCP labelling where they affect volumes or pricing Run Keep the models current as field data, costs, timelines and market conditions change Maintain governance: assumptions log, version control, source tracking and change log Keep everything audit-ready for VVBs, investors and lenders Track actual performance against the model once implementation starts, and flag deviations early Extend the models to new projects as the pipeline grows WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 4–8 years in carbon accounting, carbon project finance, or climate / nature-based investment Experience building multi-year project financial models from scratch, in Excel or Google Sheets Hands-on experience quantifying credits for ARR, IFM, REDD+ or similar projects under Verra, Gold Standard or comparable standards Solid understanding of how buffer pools, issuance timing and offtake structures drive project economics Strong model discipline: clear structure, transparent assumptions, and outputs others can audit Able to explain the numbers clearly to investors and non-specialists Fluent English Comfortable in a small team where you own your work end to end NICE TO HAVE VM0047 experience Article 6, ITMO or CORSIA transaction experience Exposure to DFIs, blended finance or EU green finance instruments Experience working in Central Asia or other emerging markets
